OBJECTIVE OF PYRAMID SOLITAIRE: To discard all 52 cards and demolish the pyramid in turn.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 1
MATERIALS: A standard deck of 52 cards and a large flat surface
TYPE OF GAME: Solitaire
OVERVIEW OF PYRAMID SOLITAIRE
Pyramid Solitaire is a game played by one person where the goal is to discard all 52 cards into a discard pile and demolish the pyramid in doing so. The game technically is won once the pyramid is gone so not all of the 52 cards will necessarily need to make it to the discard pile for you to win.
To discard cards, it must be done in pairs and each pair must equal 13. We will discuss card values later, but to get the main point of the game, you must discard cards totaling 13 in value and do this to uncover more cards in the pyramid to discard.
CARD VALUES
The cards all hold different values most of them are easy to remember because they coincide with the numerical value on their card. Like all 2s hold a value of two, all 3s hold a value of three, and so on and so forth. There are a few discrepancies though and I will explain these to you now. Aces have a value of one, jacks have a value of eleven, queens have a value of twelve and kings have a value of thirteen.
The king having a value of Thirteen means it’s the only card that doesn’t need a pair to be discarded.
THE SETUP
To setup pyramid solitaire you will thoroughly shuffle your 52-card deck and start the pyramid by placing the first card face up, now to start the second row you place two more face-up cards slightly overlapping the top card. This pattern is repeated until you reach your bottom row which will have 7 cards in it.
Once the pyramid has been constructed you will continue with the rest of the board. In some games, you will do a second row of seven below (not overlapping) the bottom row of the pyramid. This is called the reserve and these cards are always available to be played. But for now, we will continue as if we are not playing with a reserve row. Once the tableau is dealt the remaining cards are placed to the side face-up to form the stockpile and you will use cards from this deck throughout the game.
It is smart to move your top card from the stockpile to the discard pile. Cards in the discard pile are also placed faced up and essentially the reverse of your stockpile. You can play from both piles throughout the game.
HOW TO PLAY PYRAMID SOLITAIRE
The game is played by pairing cards to a total value of 13 points and discarding these pairs. Only cards that are available can be used in pairs. At the start of the game available cards include the bottom row of the pyramid, the top card from the stockpile, and the top card of the discard pile.
To make more cards available in the pyramid both cards that overlap it must be removed, once a card has no others overlapping it can be used to pair.
ENDING THE GAME
The game is over once there are no more pairs to be made legally or the pyramid is completely destroyed. In the case that the pyramid is destroyed you have won the game. If the game ends without the pyramid’s destruction, the game is lost.

Quick Start Guide
The basics of Pyramid Solitaire Saga
In Pyramid Solitaire Saga, the goal is to remove cards from the pyramid by matching them with the card on the deck, which has to be one higher or one lower. So for instance, in the example below, the Jack card is on the deck, which means you can remove the 10 card (one lower), or the Queen card (one higher).
The following cards can be matched:
A < 2 > 3
2 < 3 > 4
3 < 4 > 5
4 < 5 > 6
5 < 6 > 7
6 < 7 > 8
7 < 8 > 9
8 < 9 > 10
9 < 10 > J
10 < J > Q
J < Q > K
Q < K > A
K < A > 2
Important in considering your strategy is also which card to remove if you can choose to remove one of multiple cards. In the example below, you can choose to remove either the yellow, the blue, or the red A-card. In this case, if you remove the yellow A card, you can also remove the 2-card and the 3-card, all in one move. If you choose to remove any of the other cards, you will only be able to remove one card.
Streaks
One of the things in Pyramid Solitaire Saga that can make or break a game are streaks. It allows you to remove a lot of cards at once, and boosts your score.
By connecting multiple cards without switching a deck card, you create a streak. In the simple example below, you see how you can remove all the A and K cards, by building a streak.
Learning to recognize potential streaks is what will help you to survive in the later levels of the game.
Joker cards
A joker card can be used to match any card, but as you get only one joker card per level (unless you buy a bonus joker). There are a few tips to take into consideration to make best use of it.
USE A JOKER TO MATCH A DIFFICULT CARD
If you know you’ve had a lot of the same cards flipping through the deck, and now you’re left with a couple cards that would match with those previous cards. In the example below, if you’ve gone through a lot of 3 cards earlier, there won’t be many left in the deck, so this would be a good use of the Joker card. It opens up the cards below, and it removes cards that you are unlikely to remove with the cards from the deck.

USE A JOKER TO MAKE A STREAK
Streaks are important opportunities in Pyramid Solitaire Saga, and there are few things more annoying then having to interrupt a streak because you’re missing one crucial card. In this case, you can use the joker card to bridge two matching cards.
In the simple example below, you have the Q card on the deck. If you play the Joker, it can act as a J card, creating, or extending the streak, into Q-J-10-9.
Scoring tips
THE JOKER, TO PLAY OR NOT TO PLAY:
If you can finish a level without using the joker, you will receive 2,000 bonus points. However, you also receive 400 points for every card you have left on the deck at the end. So if you can finish the level using less than 5 cards, it will earn you more points than by using the joker-card. If you have just one or two cards left, and you know that there must be a couple of deck cards left that can help you finish, it is worth considering if you want to use the joker card, or try and play it out with the deck cards.
CATCHING THE RUNNING SCARAB:
Every once in a while, when you remove a card over a scarab symbol, a scarab with a gem on its back will run out. If you can catch it before it crawls back into its hole, you will get the gem and the bonus points for it. Of course, chasing around after the bug can be a pain. To catch the scarab easily, simply hold your mouse over its hole and wait for it to crawl back. When it’s almost back at the hole, just click a lot, and quickly, and you’ll catch it before it actually crawls in.
EXPLODING SCARABS:
While I’m not certain how this trick exactly works, it seems that if there are only a few cards left (near a scarab symbol) and you remove the card over the scarab symbol, the remaining cards will also be removed. As I said, I can’t exactly pinpoint the rules regarding this, but when given the choice between removing a card in the field, and a card on a scarab symbol, go for the latter.
Congratulations!
